What happens at the academy

Academy sessions combine structured coaching, purposeful practice and enjoyable games. Activities are adapted for different ages and abilities, so beginners and experienced youth players can develop together at an appropriate level.

Learn strong foundations

Players learn the key elements of a consistent throw, including safety and etiquette, stance, grip, set-up, backswing and follow-through. Coaching is adapted to each player rather than forcing everyone to throw in exactly the same way.

Practise and play

Sessions include purposeful practice games, scoring and checkout development, match play and activities that build focus, confidence and mental resilience. Most importantly, players have opportunities to enjoy darts and make friends.

Recognise progress

Players can assess their development through the JDC Challenge and the PDPA Single to 180 process. These provide clear benchmarks, certificates and medals while helping players understand what they can work towards next.

JDC affiliation and player development

Points Darts Academy is affiliated with the Junior Darts Corporation (JDC), giving players an internationally recognised way to measure their progress and opportunities to take the next steps into competitive darts.

Players can choose to take part in the JDC Challenge during academy sessions. It takes around ten minutes and helps players track improvement, earn recognition and understand their current level.

As players develop, JDC rankings and competitions can provide pathways towards regional and national events. Participation is optional, and any additional JDC costs will always be explained before a player takes part.

The academy is also supported by Winmau, helping us provide quality equipment and giving families the option to purchase suitable equipment when needed. Any optional equipment costs are separate from the monthly academy fee.
